Find out the benefits of drinking water for your health
The other day I finished reading a fascinating book named “Your Body’s Many Cries For Water”. What impressed me the most from reading this book, is that the author establishes a clear link between the benefits of drinking water and our overall wellness.
As the author of the book says, the importance of drinking water is very crucial for our health. To prove his point, he mentions examples of some common ailments and shows, using medical terms, that the underlying cause for these ailments is the fact that we don’t drink enough water. I show you some of the examples right below:
When our head hurts
Don’t you just hate it when, after you had a stressful day, you think that your head will explode? Well, according to scientific evidence, the reason for your headache might be that you didn’t drink enough water during the day.
The biological process of a headache is this: When we don’t replenish the water in our bodies by not drinking enough of it, our brain, which itself is 75% water, releases histamines. The creation of these chemical substances in turn cause pain and feeling of tiredness, the common symptoms of headaches. In turn, this makes us slow down our activities. In this way, the level of water in our brain is preserved at a minimum level, allowing our brain to function properly.
So, when your head hurts, the simplest and most effective remedy might be this: Drink a full glass of pure, fresh water, relax for half an hour and let the magic work. Your splitting headache will vanish!
When our back hurts
Another one of the benefits of drinking water is that it helps us better cope with the anguish and pain of a sore back.
Let me elaborate on this.
As you might probably know, our backbone is made up of a number of discs. While externally these discs are made up of a hard shell, internally they are filled with water. When the level of water inside is adequate, then they provide ample support to the disc, helping it cope with the pressure exerted on them when we move our upper body.
Now, when we move our body around, we put pressure on our discs. In response, the discs, being flexible enough, are able to expand and contract, depending on the movement. What happens next is that this action creates a suction which forces water from our body, surrounding the area of our backbone, to enter inside the discs. In this way, the hydration level inside is kept fairly constant.
You should begin to understand now what causes this process to break down. When our body is deprived of water, then there is not enough of it to enter the discs. In consequence, the outer shell of the discs is no longer supported from the inside. So, all weight of the body is shifted on them, leading to excessive pressure. The symptoms are all too familiar: Pain and distress!
Hypertension
Water also plays a vital role in the biological process associated with high blood pressure.
According to medical science, hypertension very often happens when our body detects blood volume loss. Since our blood is more than 83% water, then the most common cause of blood volume loss is dehydration.
In reaction to the reduced volume of blood, our body guides most of the blood flow to the most active organs, shutting off supply to less important ones. This redistribution produces hypertension throughout the blood circulatory system.
To summarize, it goes without saying that improving your quality of life can be as simple as getting into the habit of drinking more water each and every day.
One word of caution: In order to benefit the most and avoid any adverse effects on you health, both yours and your family’s, make sure that the water you consume at your house is the very best quality. Considering now that, based on reports and statistics issued not only by private but also by government bodies, it is widely acceptable that both tap and bottled water quality leaves much to be desired, I should advice that time investigating your options about what you can do, will be time well spent.
