How To Help A Rottweiler Rescue Dog
Every animal deserves a second chance and when you give a Rottweiler rescue dog a new home and a second chance you are doing a wonderful thing for yourself and for the dog. There is going to be some time for adjustment as the dog has been through a lot so make sure you exercise patience and also be sure to get good advice at all times about how to train and raise your new Rottweiler rescue dog because not knowing what you are doing with any Rottweiler can have bad results.
You have probably already been through this with the rescue center but overly aggressive Rottweiler rescue dogs are usually destroyed and not offered to new homes. It is a shame that some people push these poor dogs to that point, but it is part of the Rottweilers’ nature to be aggressive and that can either be tempered and properly taught or unleashed for horrible reasons. Your dog is naturally aggressive but should not have those attacking instincts that you have heard about.
A Rottweiler rescue dog is not something to be taken lightly so you may want to get advice from your vet right away on how to break your new dog in and train it so it is a good neighborhood dog. Your vet may also be able to get you the number of a reputable Rottweiler breeder that may also be willing and able to give you good advice you can use to help get your new dog used to your home and the neighborhood too. It takes some time so be patient and always be loving and positive.
Your vet may be able to get you contact information for a reputable Rottweiler breeder who can also help you with advice on how you can train your new dog and what you need to do to get it used to its new home.
When it comes to any breed housebreaking is always extremely important. If your dog is already housebroken then you are very lucky and can move on to other parts of training your dog. If your dog is not housebroken then you can use the crate method as long as you use lots of positive reinforcement and never leave the dog in its crate when you are home.
A slow and steady approach is the right way to deal with your Rottweiler rescue dog. Your dog has been through a lot and Rottweilers are extremely intelligent and they tend to not forget abuse or being abandoned. It is up to you to show your new dog that it is home now and that it is safe from all of the problems it had in the past. Remember that their nature is to be aggressive so be steady with them but always be positive.
Your adoption of a Rottweiler rescue dog is a very humane and wonderful thing to do and you should be ready for many years of love and happiness with your new dog. Always be careful when dealing with your Rottweiler and remember that your dog is on guard until it feels comfortable so just proceed slowly but always with a firm hand.
Never punish your Rottweiler. They don’t like being punished and may respond with their own aggressive behavior so always be positive and always use a lot of love when dealing with your dog. Giving a rescued dog a second chance is a wonderful thing and if you give your Rottweiler the chance to settle in to your home then it can be a wonderful pet.
