Where Do You Get Your Parenting Advice From?
When I heard the saying that kids don’t come with a handbook I never really understood what they meant. Then I had a baby of my own and I suddenly knew exactly what they meant. No two children are exactly the same, what works with one child won’t work with another.
As your kids grow up out of the baby stage into toddlers then the parenting issues can really start to take over your life. In comparison to dealing with a 2 year old throwing a tantrum walking up and down the living room for a couple of hours can seem like a easy time.
The toddler years are amongst the toughest to deal with, your son or daughter is getting to be willful and it can be difficult to know how to deal with some situations. Most of us end up reacting in the way our parents did, or we just become so laid back that we don’t ever set any boundaries.
It can be difficult knowing who to listen to where parenting is concerned, all of us see other parents doing things that we wouldn’t do. What about watching one of the many TV programs where a nanny goes and helps some family that is on the edge? These shows can be good for your ego as they always make me feel that maybe I am not doing such a bad job after all.
I did find that the Internet was a wealth of information on parenting, maybe too much information. Finding a writer who seemed to have been through similar situations to me and has a similar outlook on life was vital. if you read a site and want to shout at the screen then it probably isn’t the right website for you.
I have found that the Internet is a much better resource for parenting advice and help, you can sit down and take time to read through a site. I really like the site from a lady who works on Good Morning America TV , Ann Pleshette Murphy, as she seems to not only be a parenting expert but she also appears to be a nice person who has similar values to me.
