Poodle Personality

by Lisa A Collins

Poodles are very pleasing to the eye and this fact is buttressed even more when you take into account its extreme intelligence and its very endearing nature that makes every aspect of his personality truly work to its advantage. In terms of physique, the Poodle is small though tough and he may either have a corded coat or one that is curly and the colors will vary, though black and white are most common. Also, the corded coated Poodle is very rarely found in America though the three main varieties found in America and also in the rest of the world are the Standard, Toy and Miniature Poodle.

Another facet to the personality of a Poodle is its ability to pick up things very fast and a Poodle is also famous for being energetic and sometimes will even be termed as a clownish dog because of its natural ability to perform tricks. Poodles are also intelligent to a remarkable extent and there are even some people that opine that Poodles are in fact able to reason for themselves and they can also attune them to whichever environment they encounter. What’s more, a Poodle is also a very versatile creature and though originally bred to retrieve game, it is now famous for being a family pet dog.

The Poodle does however require being intensively groomed and because unlike other dogs, he won’t shed too much hair, it adds to the impression that the Poodle is not very dog-like at all. However, the thing that strikes you the most about the Poodle personality is his amazing intelligence which is something that the breed has always been famous for. In addition, Poodles are also very versatile and they adapt very well to different situations and environments and can serve many a role that in turn depends on its current situation.

Poodles would have made excellent guard dogs as well but their small size is a limiting factor though even then the Poodle is a very bold animal and he also exudes much confidence and is not known to easily back down when facing other animals and even strangers.

Though Poodles are docile creatures, when left to play with small children, it is still advisable to supervise them because in the presence of children who may not know how to treat with a Poodle, it could lead to him being ill treated, thus leading to the Poodle losing its trust in children and acting unpredictably as a consequence.

However, because of their remarkable intelligence they can read what their owners want from them and thus will act accordingly. Having been originally bred as hunting dogs, Poodles are good swimmers and are also very fond of water and thus love their baths and won’t mind being given a bath regularly.

In addition, Poodles are not among those dog breeds that like to be left by them and will love it the most when they are the center of attraction. Another trait commonly found in all Poodles is that they are very quick to learn tricks and will respond well to training and their willingness to obey is what sets them apart from other dog breeds. Poodles also love stability and routine and will not like it when their routine is changed and they should also not be kept in an environment that is chaotic because that will make them anxious, which is not desirable in this breed.

Also, Poodles love to be taken for rides in a car and will jump at any opportunity to be on the road. He is also very easily trained and is a friendly soul that has a sweet disposition as well.
