Beagle Rescue Dogs Make Great Pets
Arguably, the most famous Beagle on Earth is Snoopy, the dog star of the long running American comic strip “Peanuts”. However, in the last fifty years, the characters frequently remark that Snoopy was bought from a puppy mill. If “Peanuts” had been created today, Charlie Brown would have gotten Snoopy from a Beagle rescue shelter. Beagles are intelligent, resilient, friendly, and will sneak up to lick your lips, just like Snoopy.
For their many wonderful pet qualities, you’ve decided to adopt a Beagle or Beagle-mix. Beagles are often recommended by dog books, dog trainers, veterinarians and the American Kennel Club as a great “beginner” family dog. But can a Beagle rescue dog make just as good a pet as one you’ve raised from a puppy? You bet your dog biscuits they can!
A lot of time and energy has been devoted by the Beagle rescue center volunteers and any foster parents to learn all about all of their dogs up for adoption. They often will know the dog’s favorite toys and treats, which is a great way to get your Beagle rescue dog’s immediate attention. The dog will also be trained in how to behave inside of a home with common household noises. That’s less for you to worry about.
You will never be able to just drive up to a Beagle rescue center or foster home and immediately drive away with the dog. And if it does happen, run very far away! There is something really fishy going on! You will feel like you are being put through a college course on Beagle Information 101. This is to be absolutely sure you and the dog are adequately matched and will stay together. The center hopes to not get the dog back.
You should expect a happy, healthy dog ready to fit in with your lifestyle and your family. Most Beagle rescue dogs wind up being cherished members of the family. Beagles love company, are not picky eaters and do shed. They are also highly trainable – because they are so motivated by food.
Any dogs with chronic debilitating health problems are usually never put up for adoption.
The most common problems of Beagle rescue dogs are that of any dog – separation anxiety. They love you so much they want to be with you and will tell the entire neighborhood about it. Or, they might chew and dig the room they are in because they are trying to get out and find you.
Beagles learn quickly how to play with children and (unless they’ve had a traumatic past experience) love the company of other dogs. Your heart is in good “paws” with a Beagle rescue dog.
