Exclusions In International Students Insurance Policy

Overseas education and scholarships no longer remain mere dreams for ambitious students now. But what happens to you, when you need urgent medical attention in foreign shores? You will need the international student insurance, of course!

This insurance policy conditionally defrays all medical expenditures that a student might incur while studying overseas. A student is entitled to financial benefits only if his condition doesn?t violate some overriding exclusionary clauses. A Pre-existing condition, is one which required medical attention in the look back period, which could vary from 6-24 months before the stipulated coverage begins. Pre-existing conditions are not excluded from coverage.

The policy covers Pre-existing medical conditions, provided the company is furnished with contextual medical details. A Pre-existing condition means a condition requiring medical attention in the look back period. This usually ranges from 6-24 months before the official insurance coverage tenure commences. Expenses incurred in medication/ treatment while in one?s native country is not covered by the student insurance policy.

The Insurance policy judges the urgency and necessity of the nature of treatment undertaken. So, it does not extend insurance cover to defray expenses incurred in cosmetic surgeries (of non-corrective natures). Free treatments are also not covered by the insurance for international student policy.

Expenses incurred from unnecessary medical treatments, like cosmetic and beautification surgeries are not offered insurance cover. Financial benefits of the insurance policy are also denied to treatments taken for scientific research and experiment. Expenditure incurred during availing treatment without a doctor?s prescription is not remitted by the insurance policy. So, avoid consulting quacks or indulging in self-treatments.

The insurance policy does not extend its financial cover to treat students who were injured while consciously violating the law. Injuries sustained in military or civil strife, or while pursuing activities detrimental to the state are not extended financial benefits by the policy. Injuries incurred in conscious violation of curfew or police prohibition orders are not granted financial cover for treatment.

Any treatment in the nature of alternative/ traditional/ experimental medication is denied insurance cover benefits. This exclusionary clause also repudiates sensory therapeutic treatment like aromatherapy and music therapy. Self treatments, consultations with quacks and random over-the-counter medications are not covered as well.

The insurance cover does not apply to injuries sustained while pursuing high risk activities like adventure sports. Students who wish to engage in sports in hazardous environments are required to choose additional insurance policy coverage. These, effectively are some of the primary clauses that repudiate the International student medical insurance.
