Gift Giving: Searching For The Best Wedding Gift

There are times in life when even the brightest of people find themselves scratching their heads without a clue. I myself am going through one of those moments. I’m trying to decide on what to purchase for a wedding gift. I find myself at the same place where all the lost souls searching for gifts find themselves. The local shopping district. I’m straggling about trying to figure out what store will hold the answer. When it comes to wedding gifts you can play it safe and get the couple something from the registry or you can go for the gold and get them something special. These are my close friends and I don’t want to settle for some toaster that was on sale.

With my guide at hand I find myself at a cross road of sorts. At either end of the street I see a popular DVD/CD store and at the other end I see an equally well known shoe store. I know an item from either store would make a bad gift. You don’t buy a grown man or woman shoes. You do that for children and infants. Alternatively you can buy a person a CD or a DVD. But this couple in particular downloads all the music and movies they want. Whats the point of buying them something they can get themselves without any hassle? I want to get the couple something extraordinary so I press on and continue my search.

I’m trying to find the definitive wedding gift. Something that will stand out as a great gift but at the same time will be painfully obvious when I come across it. It almost sounds impossible. I start investigating some random electronics store. Then I flashback to a couple months prior when I surprised my aunt with an electric toothbrush for her birthday. Im still recovering from that faux pa.

I relax my eyes and quit searching for a moment. I simply look around. And the solution finds me. How about some nice and elegant kitchen ware? You can never go wrong with a nice pitcher, dinner set, or even silverware. It throws tiny rainbows all over the display case. Then the realization hits me: the perfect gift is something you would never get for yourself, yet would love to receive. My newlywed friends will use it together, and forever. Its even affordable. Score! Done.

My process of elimination paid off. The couple loved my gift. Whenever I visit their home I always see my gift (happily) on display. It represents my love and friendship for my friends the newlyweds. I’m really glad they enjoy my gift. It is going to stay with them for a long time.
