Family Gathering and Holiday Fun
Labor is one of the biggest summer celebrations, in my house. It is a day used for relaxing, fun, getting together with family and friends, great barbequing and parades. It is also the mark of summers end, and schools beginning, so we also hope for warm and sunny weather.
You need a warm sunny day to enjoy as much outdoor activity as possible. Labor day is perfect for grilling and cook-outs, whether in your backyard or the local park. There are all sorts of food that is great for cook-outs. Hot dogs and hamburgers are the most popular but there is nothing wrong with throwing a few chicken breasts and pork chops on the grill. Grilled corn on the cob is also a must have and grilling it up is so much better than plain old boiling.
There are also many side dishes that I anticipate each year, and for me they must all be home made. Pasta salad, macaroni salad, and potato salads are just a few. AS for desserts, anything that will allow me to pile on the Cool Whip is fine. Jello, strawberry shortcake, pudding, these are all excellent choices for me!
The great outdoors is the place to spend Labor Day. Whether hanging out in your backyard or down by the shore or sailing on the lake, under the sun is the place to be. Just be sure to wear your sun block and your hat. Spending the day on the lake or down by the river is great if you enjoy swimming and you can cook out or bring a picnic lunch.
My favorite part of our families Labor Day celebration, is the annual volleyball game. Wherever we are celebrating, we set a net up in the yard and split up into teams. Everyone plays, from the youngest to the oldest, and everyone has a blast. Sometimes the games go on for so long that no one even remember what the score is.
Whether your plans, are keeping you in your backyard or you are planning on venturing out to a local beach, park or lake, it is important to stay safe, have fun and if you are drinking drink responsibly. Here’s to hoping everyone has a safe and happy Labor Day celebration!
